Roche Angling Club Junior Fish-in June 9th 2008

The second in the 2008 Summer Series of Junior fish-ins was another resounding success.  One of the aims of the series is to support the development of young anglers and their ability and without a doubt the young team are improving very fast!  Blessed again with fantastic weather the youngsters settled in very quickly clearly remembering many of the things they had learned in the previous fish-in.  With their growing experience the coaches were able to offer more tips to fine tune their handling of the fishing kit and as a result the fish were soon being swung to hand.

Most were quickly into some small rudd whilst others got into a variety of roach, rudd and perch of very credible size.  A variety of methods were used on the evening, from waggler to slider, long pole and whip with the kids taking to all of them.

Reading the signs, coach Chris Perry altered his tactics for a bit of quality not quantity and his young angler was rewarded with a stunning roach just over the pound mark.  A great demonstration of what a bit of patience can bring.

The efficiency these young anglers are fishing with has to be seen to be believed, I’m sure we already have a couple of life-long devotees to the sport and those who don’t get hooked on it for life will always appreciate the watery world of fishing more than those who haven’t had the opportunity to try the sport.

It seems very fitting that the regeneration project that the Environment Agency and Restormel Borough Council have facilitated, along with the hard work of RAC, is creating a new generation of anglers.  It’s exciting to know that they are really only scratching the surface of Waldon pond and as stockings improve the fishing even further; these youngsters will be increasing their catches and no doubt breaking personal bests at every outing.

Keep checking the RAC web site for details of forthcoming events.
